Cub Scout Pack 272 Newsletter

January 2003

Wow! Our Pack has settled in at about 85 scouts. With this large number comes growing pains – hopefully we have alleviated most of them. Please, take the time to volunteer – this is what makes our Pack be so successful. We need the following positions filled:

PLEASE step forward and help out!

For Next Year:  Summer 2003 (Job shadow ASAP)

                Cubmaster

                                Asst. Cubmaster

For Summer 2004 (Job Shadow for this in 2003)

                                Treasurer

                                Advancement Chair

Can you do these jobs?? Yes, We have broken down these jobs into small parts if need be. Please contact Cindee 295-5521 or Esther 878-2204 for these opportunities.

XMAS TREES – Thank You to all that helped, we had a great success! Over $700.00 in profit YAHOO!!!!!

Sledding Hill Outing – Jan. 14th 6-8pm.

Should Mother decide she is tired of seeing brown grass and cover us with snow - we will have our Pack Sledding Outing. It is at East Bridge Park from 6-8pm. Bring your family and sledding paraphernalia.

Summer Webelos Camps – Webelos for this coming summer (current Bears and 4th grade Webelos) should have received camp information and should be returning their information to their leader in charge. Please respond to your leader with your decision. The money must be in very soon and we don’t want any child left behind that wishes to attend.

Genius Kits – have fun with them, make what you want from what is supplied, create your own masterpiece and bring to the January Pack Meeting to display.

Please, Grab your son and go thru his Book!

̃      There is nothing worse than having a ton of awards at the end of the year that creates a marathon Pack Meeting.

̃      We are coming up to that time of year that requires you to go thru your son’s book with him and see what he has done and make a list of what he can still do as we start heading down the backside of our year to graduation.

̃      You will be amazed at what your son has probably done in school as well as in his everyday activities that will count in his book.

̃      If your son hasn’t earned his rank badge please go thru the book and understand what your son needs to achieve it. Once they graduate – they can’t go back to earn it.

AWESOME JOB ON THE ALUMINUM CANS!  Keep collecting them:

o        Thanks for taking pride in your conservation projects!!!! Every bit helps to make our Pack better and to keep our earth clean.

o        Mr. Tim Cotter will be collecting the aluminum cans at each pack meeting so you don’t have to keep bags of them in your garage. If you have a lot of cans let Tim know, or if you wish to get them directly to him please call him at 320-558-2304.

5th Grade Webelos – We would like to thank you for your wonderful leadership, cooperation and participation in Pack 272.

o        Crossover for all 5th grade Webelos is at the Middle School Auditorium Feb 22nd at 1pm.

o         The entire Pack is welcome to attend.

o        Of course the 5th grade Webelos should invite family and friends as well.

o        The Blue and Gold Banquet Feb. 25th @ 6pm will mark your last Pack Meeting with us and the Arrow of Light Ceremony for those Webelos who have earned it (make sure your family is in attendance).

Pinewood Derby – Feb. 8th

Get those sanders and saws revved up scouts!

̃    Each scout needs to pay $3.00 to get the car kit.

̃    Upon the scout racing the car at the derby the $3.00 will be refunded by your leader.

̃    Additional cars are available to purchase for parents and other family members to race – yes- all family members to race – not just adults!!!

̃    We have this extra category so more emphasis is put on the scouts making the car, not the adults. So, please abide by the rules that a scout needs to make and decorate the majority of their car.

Blue and Gold Banquet – Feb 25th @ 6pm

This is the one you don’t want to miss – we have a potluck dinner and bring in entertainment. It is agreat gathering of all our families. Of course the entertainment is a secret!  We will also have the Arrow of Light Ceremony for our 5th grade Webelos and say good bye to them as they graduate on.

Next Pack Meeting: January 28th 7pm Pinewood Gym – Uniform Inspection: come early to get it done table will close at 7:05 pm

̃       Friends of Scouting (FOS)  will be there – These are representatives from the Crow River District/Viking Council that come in to ask for donations to help support the Camps that we use at Fun with Son, Day Camp and Webelos Camps. You can fill out a donation card and make payments as you wish, they will bill you if you would like. It is a small price to pay to keep a great program going, especially when we see such fine young boys graduate each year to their next level in our program.

̃       Bring your Genius Kit creation!!!!!

Uniform Exchange:  Have you outgrown your uniform and need a new one? Do you have a uniform that is outgrown and still in pretty good shape? Are you interested in a uniform exchange? Give Sue Pearson a call 295-0667.
